The National Opera and Ballet Theater of Odessa brings the ballet in its original version, in two acts from 1892 to music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The libretto is based on a fairy tale by Hoffmann. The original choreography is by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov.
About Odessa’s National Opera and Ballet Theater
The National Opera and Ballet Theater of Odessa was founded in 1810 under the name Odessa Stadstheater. It is the oldest theater in the Ukraine. In the 20th century the name was adapted with Opera and Ballet. Major musicians and dancers performed here as Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Nikolai Rimsky Korsakoff, Chaliapin, Caruso, Pablo Sarasat, Sergei Rachmaninov, Eugene Ysae, Isadora Duncan and Anna Pavlova.
